Under 18s lose to Tathra

August 2nd 2009

The second placed Tiger cubs faced up against a combined Pambula Merimbula Tathra side that had given them a thorough beating in their last encounter. As with most under 18 matches this one started at a hectic pace and play fluctuated from end to end in an entertaining tussle. Eden missed an early scoring opportunity when a bad pass close to the PMT line turned over possession. Nick Strudruik was making his presence felt in attack and defence, however it was Daniel Cronk who started the scoring for the visitors. Corey Stewart put the Tigers into the lead shortly after with a storming run to the line and the tyrone Thomas conversion.Eden made good yards in the next set and hooker Matt Evelyn slipped through the defensive line from dummy half to score eden's second which Tyrone also converted.

The Under 18s trapped deep in their own half by a committed Tathra team
Tathra's Aiden Aitken scored next to bring Tathra back into the game at 12-10. Tigers Captain Matt Evelyn was held up over the line and narrowly missed scoring his second just before the break.
Almost as soon as play resumed Tathra scored again when Dean Finucane crossed out wide, and then extended their lead when Dylan Aldridge scored.
The momentum was running towards Tathra and they received three penalties in quick succession before scoring again through Ben Douch. Crowd favourite John Kendall smashed through the Tathra defence late in the game to narrow the scoreline but it was all too late and the visitors ended up winning 26-18 in a highly entertaining game.Whilst the result may have been disappointing the effort shown by every player who wore the red and white was beyond question. Well done boys!
Best for Eden were Nick Rowe, Dylan Wheeler, Nick Strudruik while Matt Evelyn, Dylan Fletcher and Tyrone also had good games. This side has already qualified for the finals and has the talent to challenge for the title, but we need all players to turn up for training and games as we strive for a premiership.
