Eden 28 Cobargo 22

August 15th 2010 by Dave Evelyn

The Eden Tigers reserve grade side also lined up against Cobargo last Sunday at George Brown oval. The Tigers were out of finals contention but were looking to finish the season on a high. Cobargo have been one of the form sides all year. The game started badly for the Tigers when the kick off went out on the full .Both sides turned possession over and after one turnover Eden's Michael Schelfhout scored a great try to put the home side in the lead. Handling errors continued to plague the Tigers and led to Cobargo scoring their first and taking a 6-4 lead.Mick Schelfhout scored the Tigers and his second try after good defence forced a turnover. Marcus Shearer and Will Grant in particular were causing the Cobargo defence some serious problems every time they got the ball.Cobargo scored next to level the scores, and shortly after Cobargo's david Boyle scored to put the visitors in front 16-10, which was the score at half time.

The second half began with both sides guilty of handling errors, and Eden's Ian Smith capitalised on one of them to score the next try. Consecutive penalties put Eden on the attack. Nick Rowe was having a good game and causing the defence problems. Consecutive penalties to the Tigers put them on the attack and when hooker Matt Evelyn scored a neat try the Tigers were back in the lead 20-16.That lead was only short lived as Cobargo struck back immediately when Levi Creek crossed and the visitors took the score to 22-20.

In the next set Cobargo put the ball down and Blake Russell crossed for a well deserved try to put Eden in front 24-22. A late try to Dane Bamblett secured a great win for the Tigers. All the boys put in a great effort to finish the season in style, with Will and AJ Grant, Laurence Bamblett, Ben Fielding and Matt Evelyn outstanding. Thanks go to coach Brian Rowe(pictured) for doing a fine job( and not pulling on his boots).
