Eden Tigers Brand Sun

Brave 18's Go Down
Eden 12 Tathra 54

June 7th 2011 by Dave Evelyn

Eden Tigers CEMPAC sponsored under 18's took on the Tathra Sea Eagles on Sunday at George Brown oval. The Tigers were undermanned , and with the absence of five under 16's only managed to round up 12 players. The skill and courage of the eden side was evident form the start as they put it right to the Tathra side in the early stages, with Jacob Young and Jamie McLeod making good inroads up front and some slick ball movement coming from halves Mohammed and Fletcher.

Eden's enterprising play was rewarded when Andrew Evelyn stormed over next to the posts , and with the Fletcher conversion Eden Led 6-0. Eden was dominating all facets of the game in the early stages and when Dylan Fletcher scored Eden's second try the lead extended to 12-0.

Unfortunately the weight of numbers began to take its toll and after about 20 minutes the Tigers began to flag. The Tathra side took full advantage and as they began to dominate possession the points soon followed. The Eagles ran in three tries before half time to take the score to 16-12 at half time.

Coach Corey Stewart was very pleased with his side's first half effort and urged them to work on controlling possession and looking for good field position. Again the Tigers managed to compete for a short time but the Tathra side played some enterprising football and ran the Eden side ragged in the second half scoring four tries in the closing stages, the final score being 54-12.

For Eden Jacob Young put in a huge effort, Jamie Mohammed, Andrew Evelyn and Dylan Fletcher were standouts but credit must go to all the Eden players who showed great courage and commitment.
