Eden Tigers Brand Sun

U 18's Break Stallions
Eden 36 Cooma 10

June 19th 2011 by Dave Evelyn

Sundays under 18 clash with Cooma was a must win for the young Tigers who have had a chequered start to the season through injury, rep duties and in some cases lack of commitment. Last Sunday at George Brown Oval the Tiger Cubs played strong rivals the Cooma Stallions and came away with a vey good 36 points to 10 win.

The game began in a typical testosterone charged under 18's start with both sides going hammer and tongs at each other. Cooma probably had the best of the early exchanges with Eden turning over possession on several occasions. Cooma were the first to score when flying winger Tom Harmie scoring a converted try for the visitors to take a 6-0 lead.

From the restart Eden's kickoff found touch and on the second tackle Jacob Young crashed over for Eden's first try, and with Dylan Fletcher's conversion the scores were level. Another kick off error, this time by Eden, saw Cooma straight back on the attack and they scored a good try by A.Stokes to take a 10-6 lead.

Jake Young Hits the ball up while Shaquille Aldridge and Joe Stewart look on.

Eden were back on the attack in short time and Dylan Fletcher linked up with Brad Elton to put Brad in for his first try. This allowed the Tigers to make it a 10-10 scoreline leading up to half time.

However the Tigers weren't done with and soon those in the crowd were treated to some wonderful elusive running as Joe Stewart was taunting the defence, and his try and the Fletcher conversion took the half time score to 16-10.

The second half started as the first had finished with Eden on the offensive and looking for points. Those points came courtesy of another try to Jacob Young, who is really making his mark in the 18's competition this season. Another kick off error by Cooma saw the Tigers back on the offensive and eventually scoring a great try by Chris Chalker, which took the score to 26-10. Chris had a great game for the Club and is sure to become a spectator favourite with his punishing bursts and big hits. When the ball did get wide after a period of scrappy play that saw both teams conceding penalties, Eden hooker Andrew Evelyn scored under the posts and celebrity kicker Indy Hodson added the extras. With little time to go Eden kept their line intact and then counter attacked and Indy Hodson was rewarded with a good try after clever lead up by Andrew Evelyn.

The final score was 36-10 and that was a fairly good indication of the match up. For Eden Young, Jamie Mohammed , Jamie McLeod, Dylan Fletcher and Andrew Evelyn were stand outs, while our under 16 legends Joe Stewart, Shack Aldridge and Andrew Love all played top games.

As usual for the Eden 18's, if we could get every player to turn up to training AND on match days every week we would be very hard to beat, so lets get down to training on Tuesdays and Thursdays and prepare for another big game next weekend.

Chris Chalker proved hard to handle when using his strength and speed to charge the ball into the Cooma Defence.
