Eden 22 Tathra 12

July 17th 2011 by Dave Evelyn

The Great Southern Inn Eden Tigers travelled to Tathra to take on the Sea Eagles. As expected the Tathra side put it to the Eden boys in the first part of the match and a willing battle between the forwards was assured. Tathra dominated the early possession and it was only outstanding defence that held them out. Mick Wykes, Tommy Lynch and Ian Smith were all heavily involved. Eden's strong running backrower Phil Crosby was stretchered off the field with what appeared to be a serious ankle injury. This spurred the Tigers on and quick stepping Toby Timms scored a clever try stepping through five defenders from close range to score. Dylan Fletcher's conversion took the Tigers to a 6-0 lead.

Mick Wykes Heavily involved on Sunday.

The Tigers appeared to be getting on top and after receiving a penalty they mounted a strong attack that ended with WBH Ian Smith crossing for a try. Almost immediately Eden scored another try, with Dylan Fletcher scoring after strong leadup by Lynch and Holding. The Smith conversion took the lead to 16-0.

With the halftime break looming Tathra scored their first try when Clay Ryan scored out wide, taking the score to 16-4. A late try to Ian Smith saw Eden take a commanding 22-4 lead into the break.

Tathra opened the second half with some spirited attack and scored their second try on the back of a couple of penalties and it was 22-8. The game was opening up and good handling and ball movement from both sides entertained the small crowd as play fluctuated from end to end. Phil Crosby made a miraculous recovery and ran back on. Leigh Hennessy was having a very strong game and continually hit the ball up hard and then buried opposition players in big tackles. As usual Scott Jackson was in everything, Sam Ellem , Smith, Fletcher and Griffin were all good for the visitors. The final score of 22-12 was a testament to the application and hard work from the Tathra side who aquitted them selves well.

Scott (Hulio) Jackson was in everything on Sunday.
