Tigers Secure Minor Premiership
Eden 48 Narooma

August 13th 2011 by Dave Evelyn

The Great Southern Inn sponsored Eden Tigers have secured the Group 16 Minor premiership, and more importantly a home semi-final, after outclassing the Narooma Devils at George Brown Memorial Sportsground last Sunday. The locals had long periods of possession during the first half but to their credit Narooma's defence was excellent, allowing the Tigers only three tries in the first half- all of them unconverted. It was the solid work of the Eden pack that laid the foundation for the win, with Tommy Lynch, Billy Michelin, Neil Baker, Mick Wykes and Phil Crosby working as a unit and putting the Narooma defence under pressure with every possession. In the backs Tyrone Thomas, Darren Griffin and Toby Timms stood out in the early stages.

Biily Michelin hitting and form and fitness as we head towards the finals.

The floodgates opened early in the second half as weight of possession sapped the stamina of the visitors. Sam Ellem ,Tommy Lynch, Darren Griffin, Cameron Brown, Ian Smith and Tyrone Thomas all added tries in the second half to put the icing on a convincing 48-0 victory.

First Grade now have a week to prepare for the major semi final against Bega in Eden in a fortnight. A win in that match will put the mighty Tigers into another Grand Final, and with the return of Todd Bolton, Tom Bell, Scott Jackson and hopefully Matt Bell the Tigers are hitting top strength at the right time of the season.
