Born in Warren Central West NSW (Warren meaning Root or Strong)
Mark's tribal ancestors in the area are known as the Wailwan People (Weilwan)
Mark's mother's maiden name was Lake. She was born on a mission 5 kms out of Warren called Beemunel.
Mark's dad was a caucasian boy from a wealthy and respected family in town.
Mark first started painting when in year 9 at Warren Central School, where he completed a two week work shop with a well known artist named Max Connellan. They painted the school and individual pieces. At the time Mark received the best male painting award. Years later, in 2000, Mark helped paint Yetta Dhinnakkal (meaning right pathway), an aboriginal correctional centre situated at Brewarrina NSW. It is one of a kind.
In 2007 Mark moved to Leumeah in south west Sydney. It was in Sydney that his paintings were recognised after making the finals of the Fishers Ghost Art Awards in 2008 and 2009.
Without moving from his traditional dreamtime stories Mark has also decided to start painting more modern. Mark explains, "To understand this I paint about experiences that I and other people have seen or perhaps have been through in life past and present".
Marks paintings are animal based. "I believe that everyone is symbolized to some sort of animal and perhaps to many. I am a proud indigenous man and take my paintings and culture very seriously."
