Reserves outclassed

August 16th 2009

Edens defending premiership reserve grade side faced Pambula-Merimbula in the elimination semi final at Cooma on Sunday. Pambula had trounced the Tigers in their two recent matches, and things didn't look too flash when, after play had just began Pambula scored the first try to take the early lead 4-0. Scott Parker was soon over for the Bulldogs' second ,and Pambula scored their third to take a 16 nil lead shortly after. A Pambula knock on from the restart saw Eden on the attack and Shane Mongta scored a very determined try to get the Tigers on the board and back into the match. Pambula scored again to stall the tigers momentum before Sugar scored his second try to take the score to 24-10 in favour of the Bulldogs at halftime.
Eden were still in the hunt at this stage, but really needed to score first in the second stanza. Unfortunately Pambula received two consecutive penalties and ran in a try, and then Eden's restart kickoff went out on the full and Pambula scored again to effectively wrap up the match.
Grant Miller was showing touches of class at halfback and Michael Thompson was having a big game in the forwards with James Cartwright also leading the way with some good hit ups. When Shane Mongta scored his third try after a good run by tyrone Thomas the score gained some respectability. Eden had more chances to score as the game wound down to its inevitable conclusion but poor options in attack saw the raids amount to nothing, and finally Pambula finished the scoring with a late converted try to win the game 40-16.
