Disappointing Ressies fall to Cooma
Eden 8 Cooma 16

June 19th 2011 by Dave Evelyn

Eden's reserve grade side took on the fancied Cooma side at George Brown Oval on Sunday. Cooma scored the first try after an offside penalty to Cooma 10m out from our line. In the early stages Wayne Wykes, Corey Walker and Reece Wheeler were very strong in defence. The rest of the first half was a see sawing affair with both sides squandering several good opportunitites. With just minutes to the break Cooma put up a high cross field kick which was well taken by right winger Robertson and with the conversion unsuccessful Cooma led 10-0 at half time. Eden's forwards were very well led by Corey Walker who was Eden's best on the day. Both Wheeler boys Reece and Dylan were involved in everything, while Matt Evelyn was scheming away and looking for some chinks in the Cooma defence.

The second half started very brightly for the home side with Reece Wheeler scoring, and with the Fletcher conversion unsuccessful it was now 10-4 but that was where the score remained until Cooma scored a late try which was converted and took Cooma to a safe 16-4 scoreline. With moments remaining Corey Walker slipped a clever ball to Reece Wheeler who crossed out wide, leaving the final score at 16-8.

Eden lost the penalties 9-4 and turned possession over to the opposition side 14 times, so in reality it was a grand effort to only lose by 8. This is a side with a lot of ticker and we are confident of a good showing at the business end of the season. Players player was Corey Walker, while Dylan and Reece Wheeler, Matt Evelyn,Jamie Mohammed and Wayne Wykes all worked very hard defending against some typically large Cooma boys!
