Roosters Ressies Run Riot
Eden 6 Bega 50

July 8th 2012 by Dave Evelyn

The Eden Tigers reserve grade side made the trip up to Bega last Sunday full of optimism following a rousing last start win. The Bega side were kept scoreless by the gutsy Tigers for the first 25 minutes before the floodgates opened and the bigger more experienced roosters outfit took control of proceedings, ultimately winning 50-6 as the weight of possession and defensive effort took its toll on the young Tigers. The Tigers cause wasn't helped when Captain Coach Corey Walker was badly concussed before half time. Several Eden players were hurt in some questionable defensive tactics with Andrew Love copping a nasty elbow to the jaw which brought the game to an early finish but should have resulted in an early finish for a Bega player, and a number of other high tackles and spear tackles which went undetected.

The Eden side were well served by Corey Walker until injured, Aaron Aldridge andMatt and Andrew Evelyn, and a notable game from Nick Bowes. Billy Squires again played above his weight and did a grand job at fullback, while Wade Irvin and Chris Chalker worked very hard up front. Dan Bell made a welcome return for the Tigers and was rewarded with their only try late in the game.

The Roosters had a very good completion rate of 11/14 and that statistic told on the scoreboard at half time with the home side leading 20-0.

In the second half the Bega side went right on with the job scoring three tries in the first ten minutes to have the game at their mercy at 38-0. The Eden boys showed excellent character to stiffen their defence, and even threw a few attacking scares at the Bega side but it was all too little too late. The Roosters scored a couple more tries to go to 50-0 before Bell scooted through the defence to score, with Dennis Heasman converting.

Eden has a bye next week and then we face up to the Moruya Sharks in a fortnight in Eden.
