Tigers show great form in win over Sharks
Eden 26 Moruya 14

May 19th 2013 by Dave Evelyn

The Great Southern Inn Eden Tigers put the other sides in the Group 16 competition on notice that they are a genuine title contender with a very impressive 26-14 win over Moruya on Sunday in Eden. Captain Coach Greg Nicholson led his side by example, with every Tiger showing great commitment and intensity in attack and defence. The show got off to a poor start when Moruya scored from only their second possession to take an early 4-0 lead. A couple of tackles and strong surges from the forwards saw Eden score next through Brendan Swires. Eden began to assert dominance up the middle of the field, and a couple of penalties conceded by an increasingly frustrated Moruya side saw Nicholson crash over for a try. Ian Smith's conversion saw Eden lead 10-4.

Eden continued to dominate, and after another penalty, with Moruya on the back foot Tigers Matt Evelyn scooted through to score adjacent to the posts. Smith's conversion put the Tigers out to a 16-4 lead and their supporters into raptures. A late Moruya try just on the break saw the Tigers take a 16-8 lead to the interval.

Captain Coach Greg Nicholson led his side by example. Matt Creswick about to receive the ball.

Eden's intensity maintained in the second half and Moruya were continually frustrated by the swarming Eden defence. Two tries in the second half by the Tigers saw them run out winners 26-14 in what was a very tough encounter. The team travels to Narooma next weekend to take on the Devils.
